Is it possible to start your own gambling website?
We’ve been getting a lot of emails from people wondering if it was possible for them to start their own gambling website and the answer is pretty simple… Yes you can. However, be ready to spend a lot of money and make sure you are a very patient person. The truth is that anybody with an idea, they think, is totally worth pursuing can apply for an online gaming licence from the jurisdiction of their choice such as: Isle of Man, Curacao, Malta, Gibraltar, etc… and hope for the best. There are better ways to do it though, keep reading!
Obtaining a gaming licence is something you cannot be 100% sure
Applying for a gaming licence doesn’t mean you are going to get it for sure and it takes a while even if you do. Every jurisdiction has its own process, but essentially it all comes down to the same basics: lots of paperwork, background checks, business plans, financial forecasts, the last 3 months of your personal banking account, declaration forms, etc… They want to know if you are legit and for real about this, also they want to make sure the’re not giving a licence to someone untrustworthy
You have to decide under which jurisdiction(s) you want to operate
First of all, decide in which countries you want to offer your game. You are going to be asked for a legal opinion that says you can legally offer that form of gaming in that country and basically you make sure that what you intend to do is legal.
Select the jurisdiction where you want to operate your gambling website from.
The most common jurisdictions for online gambling are places such as:
Isle of Man, Malta, Gibraltar, Kahnawake, Antigua & Barbuda and Curacao.
Each jurisdiction has their own advantages so make sure you research what is best for your needs, or send us and email about it and we can help guide you in the right direction.
Here is an example of fees that might be incurred:
|Isle of Man||Malta||Kahnawake|
|Application Fees||£5000||€2,330||$20,000 USD|
|Licence Fees||£35 000 per annum||€8500 per annum||$20,000 USD per annum|
|Renewal Fees||€1,500||$20,000 USD|
|Type of licences||Full Licence||Classes 1 to 4||Interactive Licence|
|Class 1: €4,660|
first 6 months and
7,000 Per Month
|Time to obtain||12 to 16 weeks||12 to 16 weeks||8 to 12 weeks|
You should hire a company specialized in the process, they can handle a lot of things on your behalf
Once your jurisdiction is selected, go on the gaming commission website to see exactly what you need to provide and fill out. Don’t panic! There’s a lot of stuff to read and fill out, but at that point I strongly suggest you hire a CSP (Company Service Provider) in order to apply for your gaming licence.
They will help you out with everything you need: incorporating your company, providing you with the documentation needed for your gaming licence application, opening your bank account and directing you towards the right company for your payment processing and hosting. Its not their first gaming application and they know what to write in your business plan in order to get it. Most CSPs will charge you half the price to start working on your application and the other half has to be paid if the application is granted by the gaming commission of your preferred jurisdiction. It costs some money but if you want to have all the odds in your favor, its totally worth it.
